Dear Fellow Louisianans,

I am Gary Crockett, Democratic candidate for the United States Senate, running to defeat Senator Bill Cassidy and stand up for Louisiana’s working families.

The so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” may sound appealing, but for Louisiana families, seniors, and rural communities, the stakes are serious.

What’s at Risk for Louisiana:

  • Medicare – Over 850,000 Louisiana seniors and individuals with disabilities rely on Medicare. Cuts or structural changes could mean higher premiums, increased out-of-pocket costs, and reduced access to trusted doctors and hospitals. Many seniors live on fixed incomes and cannot absorb higher medical expenses. Weakening Medicare puts their health and financial security in jeopardy.
  • Medicaid – More than 1.9 million Louisiana residents depend on Medicaid, including children, seniors in nursing homes, people with disabilities, and low-income working families. Funding instability could place up to 33 rural hospitals at risk of closure. When rural hospitals close, communities lose emergency services, good-paying jobs, and access to basic care. Entire regions of our state could become healthcare deserts.
  • SNAP – New restrictions on food assistance would harm working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and veterans who rely on temporary support to make ends meet. With grocery prices still high, reducing access to food assistance increases hunger, strains local charities, and hurts local grocery stores and farmers who depend on SNAP dollars circulating in their communities.

While the legislation includes tax provisions and business incentives, independent analyses warn that the largest benefits flow to high-income earners while increasing pressure on essential programs Louisiana families rely on every day.

Louisiana should not have to sacrifice healthcare, food security, and rural hospitals while powerful interests receive expanded tax advantages.

As your U.S. Senator, I will:

  • Protect Medicare and Medicaid by opposing harmful cuts, strengthening long-term funding, and working to reduce prescription drug costs so seniors can afford the medications they need.
  • Defend SNAP and strengthen food security by ensuring benefits reflect real food costs and by supporting partnerships that connect Louisiana farmers with local food programs.
  • Fight for rural hospitals and expanded healthcare access by securing federal resources, supporting telehealth services, and investing in healthcare workforce development so families can receive care close to home.
  • Lower homeowners’ insurance and utility costs by pursuing federal disaster mitigation funding, improving infrastructure resilience, and increasing oversight to prevent unfair rate hikes that burden families.
  • Support small businesses and Louisiana farmers through fair tax policies, improved access to capital, and trade and economic policies that lower input costs rather than increase them.
  • Stand with veterans and working families by protecting earned benefits, expanding workforce training programs, and advocating for wages that reflect the true cost of living.
  • Promote responsible fiscal policy by reducing wasteful spending while protecting programs that serve children, seniors, veterans, and working families — ensuring our budget reflects our values.

This is a defining moment for our state. We need leadership that puts Louisiana families first — not Washington politics.

I love Louisiana, and I will fight every day for our people.

Sincerely,

Gary Crockett

Democratic Candidate for United States Senate – Louisiana
